Your dog should always trot evenly. Also when changing sides and turning it should not jump or stand, but keep an even movement.
Be careful that you never hinder other Junior Handlers. That is unfair. Leave enough space – at least 1 metre.
If your dog at one time is not in the mood: don't try to force it. Jump around with it, talk and cajole it. Show it that Junior Handling is fun.
The end of the lead should not dangle around. Use a lead that is thin enough to roll it, so that it disappears in your hand.
Be careful of your own posture. You should always have a straight back. If you knee behind a small dog it looks as if you are bending over it. The dog will make itself smaller. If you move with a bent back , your dog will too.
Present and stack your dog always with stretched arms. So that you have enough distance and your dog stands freely. This way you have a better chance of seeing if your dog is standing correctly.
Im Wettbewerb müssen die Kids manchmal die Hunde tauschen. Trainiere daher nicht nur mit Deinem eigenen Hund, sondern auch mit fremden Hunden, die viel größer oder kleiner sind als Dein eigener.Whenever you change direction, give your dog a command early enough. Early enough means that the command is really given before the change of direction, so that the dog can hear, understand and act. The command will avoid that the dog runs „into the lead“ .
Sometimes in a competition the kids must exchange dogs. Therefore don't train only with your own dog but also with dogs that don't know you, and are either larger or smaller than your own.
Smile! The judges and audience want to see that the work with your dog is fun.
Something that goes without saying: After a competition congratulate the winner and give your thanks to the judge.
In a video Patrick shows a complete sequence. Firstly the show pose with perfect shadowing and showing of teeth. He begins the triangle with a turn in front of the judge. The turn inwards on the straight line can be seen well.
